Rosy Wilde is pleased to present William Cruickshank’s first solo show.
William’s work often involves elegantly executed vehicles that illustrate and test obstinate laws and order, or elemental natural phenomena such as gravity, the passing of time, or cause and effect, in ways that include wonder and perplexity. There are also multiple-like objects, adjusted every day items, and textbook experiments that frustratingly and sometimes endearingly don’t work according to one set of rules, although do according to another set.
Combining a formal gallery space with something more domestic, the Rosy Wilde gallery provides an appropriate platform for William’s semi-marketable inventions, charming puzzles and objects for and of private adventure and investigation. All of these quietly oscillate between and therefore blur the hierarchies associated with futile play and serious endeavour, and back room / show-room production.
